Why we love story
Stories can whisk us away to other worlds and into other lives. They have the power to teach us about ourselves and others and help us exercise our imaginations. Stories are for sharing – they communicate values, history and lessons in life. There is a story in everything and everyone; they are everywhere we turn, and a well told story can give meaning to life and all within it, from the magical to the mundane. Stories have the power to chance the world. “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic.” – Albus Dumbledore (J. K. Rowling)
The benefits of creative writing
Story Studios Australia/Melbourne Young Writers’ Studio was founded on the belief and observation that whilst all people are inherently born storytellers, many of us lack confidence in our own creativity or knowledge of storytelling craft. This particularly applies to young people.
As such we take a mentoring based, story first approach to developing confidence, creativity and story craft. We believe that through being supported and encouraged to explore and share your ideas, all of us have the opportunity to develop an enduring life long passion for story and for writing. The flow on benefits of investing in these things are in many ways boundless but include improved self-confidence, better critical and creative thinking and expanded communication skills (just to name a few). Of course, creating and writing stories is also a hell of a lot of fun!
